Snickers Cake
For the record, my mother-in-law called this Damn Cake. I make mention of that fact because I think it's funny and it's simply what she called it. Not sure if it was because it was so good she'd eat the whole thing and then exclaim, "Damn cake!" I don't know. But when I called Kelly's cousin to see if she had the recipe, she had it under Snickers cake. So for the sake of the children, I give you Snickers Cake.
Ingredients:
1 German chocolate cake mix
14 oz. of caramels, unwrapped
6 oz. milk chocolate chips
1/3 cup milk
1 stick butter
Directions:
Make the cake as directed on the box. Pour 1/2 of the batter in a 9x13 pan. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 15 minutes. While the cake is baking, melt butter, caramels, and milk (stovetop or microwave). Remove cake from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over hot cake. Pour caramel on top. Pour remaining cake batter on top and bake an additional 20 minutes.
Notes: Kelly requested this for his birthday cake this year and it was so great that it turned out exactly as he remembered it. A few things, though. This cake did not bake through in the time listed above. At least not in my oven. I actually think I ended up putting it in for 40 minutes as opposed to the 20 minutes listed. It was really jiggly and undone in the middle after 20 minutes. You'll have to guage it by your oven. This cake is amazing though. So good!
